Welcome to Darwin’s at The George
Contemporary and stylish, Darwin’s is a great place to relax in Lichfield and enjoy modern British dishes created with passion and style from the best of local, seasonal produce.
Darwin’s at The George is named after Erasmus Darwin (1731 – 1802), one of Lichfield’s most famous sons and self-professed lover of fine food.
The grandfather of Charles, Erasmus Darwin was one of the greatest minds of the 18th century and laid the foundations to the theory of evolution. Known as the Leonardo da Vinci of the Midlands, his close friends and associates included Josiah Wedgwood, Matthew Boulton and James Watts. Click here to read more about Erasmus Darwin.
Did you know the logo for Darwin’s was inspired by Erasmus Darwin’s table? Darwin loved great food – so much so that in his later years, he had to have a semi-circle cut out of his dining table so he could sit at it comfortably!
Darwin’s restaurant at The George offers you a relaxed yet fun dining experience, each evening from 6pm. Our chefs use only the highest quality seasonal produce, locally sourced wherever possible, to create innovative and delicious modern British food. With dishes catering for a range of tastes and dietary requirements, and a wine list to suit all tastes and pockets, there really is something for everyone at Lichfield’s premier restaurant.
There’s also a great value fixed price menu available Sunday – Thursday evenings and from 6 – 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays (2 courses : £16.50, 3 courses: £19).
