Our Environmental Policy
At The George we recognise the fact that the nature of our services results in an overall impact on the environment and that by conducting our business in a responsible manner we can reduce this impact.
We have therefore set up a committee (or green team!) of employees to implement new ideas and working methods to reduce waste and our consumption of energy and water.
Our environmental activities so far
- Water saving devices have been installed in the toilets
- We are recycling as much glass, paper and plastic as is possible
- Lamps and lights have been fitted with low energy bulbs to reduce energy consumption and we have installed automatic lighting systems
- In our restaurants we are committed to sourcing produce locally to reduce the number of food miles travelled, thereby reducing our carbon footprint
- Air conditioning units are set to optimum minimum temperatures
- Energy consumption is tracked monthly by cost per room
- A bedlinen and towel usage policy is in place to reduce linen consumption
- Waste items are donated to schools and charities
- We are gradually replacing the boilers to combination low energy boilers
- We are working closely with The Carbon Trust and WRAP to help reduce our carbon footprint
